Hello, my name is Rusty. The silicone lube is a great start, but there is better stuff on the market. DeOxit is at any electronics store, and it's to electronics as WD40 is to a squeaky hinge. DeOxit removes dirt, and is really good for cleaning electronics. Feel free to use a generous amount, but make sure the batteries are not in the camera, and allow sufficient time to dry. That is your best bet.
