I have a SX230HS. When I shut it off, the protective leaves

Customer Question

I have a SX230HS. When I shut it off, the protective leaves over the shutter don't usually operate completely. I'm concerned about damage to the lens. I do keep it in a case and by touching the leaves, get them open or shut. I'm concerned about getting grease from my skin on them. How can I help the problem?
Thank you!

Hi Bill,

How old is your camera?

Also is it that the lens covers wont open or close fully?

And has the camera had a lot of use?

Thank you

It's about 4 years old and yes, it's heavily used. (It's my backup to my Nikon—I'm a professional photographer. Yes, the lens covers are the problem

Thank you for that. It is an excellent camera, but these have very soft plastic parts that are very fragile and are susceptible to damage from heat in a hot car, dust and dampness.

This would need a tune up so to speak as there really isn't anything you personally can do to fix this. Taking this camera apart should only be done by an experienced tech because a lot of parts inside will likely come out of place when opening it up lol.

Most any local camera repair shop can help with this.

And I can provide a good place to send it for this fix if you need? Just let me know on that.

You can try compressed air in a can for this first as dust build up in between the lens cover assembly tracks and doors can jam and sometimes that will clean it out.

You can buy this air cleaner from Radio Shack and the like. Best Buy should still carry that too.

Please let me know if you need me further, also don't forget to rate my service to you before you close this page, you can then reply anytime you need me at no additional cost. Also it costs nothing to rate.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.
