Hi,Error 99 is a general fault message on the Canon 50D. It can mean a number of things. If you are not experiencing shutter or mirror problems when the camera does take a shot (you would know it from the sound), then the first thing to do is clean the contacts on the lens and camera body where the lens is mounted with an eraser, which you have already done. Bad communication between the lens and the camera is the #1 cause of this error. You can also use compressed air to blow out the memory card slot, since a little dust there can hamper the connection. Using a memory card that has been formatted in the camera also tends to lower the occurrence of this error. If these procedures fail to solve the issue then execute a full camera reset by removing the main battery, memory card, and the date battery using the information attached. Once these have been removed, turn the camera to "ON" and allow it to sit for ten minutes. Turn the camera to "OFF", reinstall both batteries and the memory card and try it out. You will need to reset the time and date. Please let me know the result. Please keep in mind that my diagnosis & solutions provided are directlydependent on the accuracy of your description of the problem. As withany "do it yourself" fixes, success is a "team effort", since I can'tsee or touch the camera, and relies on the customer's manual dexterityand ability to follow the instructions well.If you require additional information, please use the Reply to ExpertTab to contact me.
