Coolpix p90 camera says, lens error remove lens cap (cap is not on), lens goes in and out a short way
Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I am a Camera & Video professional.

Lets give this a try and see if it helps..

Lets remove the battery from the camera and then press and hold the power (on/off) button for 1 minute. Than release the button, put a fully charged battery back in and see if it fixes it. Let me know how it goes. While you have the battery out clean the terminals in the compartment and also remove the storage card if you have one in the camera.

we took the battery out for 1 min and it does the same thing, what do you clean the terminals with?

You can use an eraser which does work the best but the important thing is that there is no corrosion or dirt on them.

no, nothing that we do is working, the lens just comes out a little and the screen do not light up but to say error

Ok Gene. The problem is that when the lens comes out there is a sensor in there that must be triggered in order for the camera to come on and this is not happening. The way you describe what it is doing tells me the problem is the lens is off its track and when the servo motor that moves it meets resistance it just shuts everything down. To fix this wil require a camera shop to open the camera and assuming the track is not damaged they can put it back on the track. THis would cost about $50. If however the track has been damaged it will cost more to fix it then a new camera.
Sorry for the bad news but if I can help further with this please let me know.

well, thanks for your help. I will try and find a camera repair shop, I do not remember seeing one locally. Is there a store name that you know of in Texas that works on this?

You are very welcome. If you can give me the name of a city near you I can find a place for you.
