Using bad judgment, I was carrying my G11 by its strap, without a case, and with the LCD screen out, when I stumbled and the camera pendulumed into a door frame hard enough to spring open the battery compartment. After reinserting the battery, the camera turned on, the lens barrel deployed, but the LCD screen will not display any image, only icons. Any suggestions??

Thank you for contacting JustAnswer. I will help you with your question.

I am sorry for your accident with your camera.

Before we start, please let me explain something about our service:
Troubleshooting camera and video is not an exact science and sometimes we may not be able to give you an immediate and clear solution. If my first answer does not resolve the issue or you need more information please use the "REPLY TO EXPERT" button.

It may help a little more to know:
Can you still take a picture, even without the assistance of the lcd screen? (You may be able to see the picture with the review feature of the camera or with the camera connected to a computer)

I will be looking for your response. Thank you.

No, I tried taking a picture, and operating on movie. While I was still able to use the lcd screen to playback pictures taken prior to the accident, the ones I tried to take afterwards came up black. I have also tried depressing the DISP button repeatedly in an attempt to retoggle the display function, but without success

I hate to be the carrier of bad news: Based on what you are describing unfortunately the impact damaged the image sensor or the circuitry connecting it to the control panel. The sensor is the camera delicate component that converts the image captured by the lens into a complex electronic signal. The camera would need to be opened and repaired by a qualified technician.

I will give you the contact links for Canon Technical Support and United Camera, a reputable flat-fee repair service:

Canon: (Click here)
United Camera: (Click here)

At united camera it will cost you around $150.00, cost efficient considering the market price of a new G11, an excellent camera.

Please let me know if you would need more information.

The best of luck to you.
