Customer Question

I have a Nikon D300, which is wonderful camera. But, recently I plugged it into my laptop, and it wasn't recognized. It wasn't even showing up as being plugged in. Can recommend a solution?

Hi there. My name is XXXXX, XXX it would be my pleasure to help with your issue.

This is most likely due to missing or corrupt file tree information on the card. This can easily happen during transfer or if the card is used in more than one device without being formatted.

The easiest way to correct this is to install the card directly into your computer using either the card slot on your computer or an external card reader. If you don't have either of these, then you can purchase an external reader for less than 10$ at most any store that sells electronics.

Once you have the card directly connected to your computer, go to start>my computer>there should be a new removable disk that shows up there under devices with removable storage. If you click on this removable disk there should be a folder inside called DCIM. Inside this DCIM folder there should be more folders that contain your images. From here you can either copy and paste or drag and drop your images onto another location on your computer for safe keeping.

Once you've backed up all the images on the card, then re-install the card in your camera and format the card using the camera setup menu. This will rebuild the DCIM file structure of the card and get it back to working normally. It's good practice to format your card after each transfer of images to ensure that you never lose important data to a corrupted card.

Thanks for your patience while we work through your issue. Hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else that I can do to assist you. Please don't forget to rate my response as positive if I've been helpful. If you feel the need to rate "I expected more" or "helped a little", please respond and continue the conversation with me before rating at all and I'll do everything possible to try and help you get your issue resolved or provide you with all the information you need to get it repaired or replaced.

Should you choose to rate my response positively, my family and I appreciate it very much. Have a wonderful day and I'll be here when you need me.
