I have a sony dcr-trv520 ntsc camcorder. I get no picture, when i just preview before recording or even when i film. It just looks like im filming with the lens cap on. I have checked to see if the lens move during zooming and it does. But everything is black. I can hear the sound during playback but no matter what i do there is no picture.
Optional Information: Make: Sony Handycam Model: dcr-trv520 Already Tried: I have tried cleaning it
Hi,If you are still able to see icons, menus and view previously taken photos correctly, then, unfortunately it is very probable that what you have described indicates there is a problem with the ccd (the light sensitive chip that produces the image) or the connection to it. While your camera was not on the list of Sony cameras for free repair, I am sorry to say that, Sony discontinued the program in December 2009, the information at the link below does fully explain the problem and tells how Sony and other manufacturers handled it. Since more and more newer models have the identical problem the info may give you some leverage with Sony. You are the 3rd person in a one month period, with a Sony camera with this problem. As with any "do it yourself" fixes, success is a "team effort", since I can't see or touch the camera, and relies on the customer's manual dexterity and ability to follow the instructions well.If you require additional information, please use the Reply to Expert Tab to contact me.
