Hi...Nikon d90.cant get the spot metering to move to a chosen spot....it just stays in the middle.Dave
Hi there and welcome to Just Answer. I'm sorry to hear about your camera. I will try and give you an accurate and precise answer.
Are you referring to the focus point spot in the viewfinder? Spot metering is something different. The focus point is where the camera is going to focus. The D90 has 11 or 12 points I believe.
To move the spot around, press the shutter button half way and then use the circular multi selector dial (on your thumb) to move the focus point.
Is that what you are trying to do?
I'll be here if you need more help.

Thanx Steve....yes you are right....thats what i am trying to do....but it wont! The "multi selector dial" does not move it. I know how it works...i am fairly well experienced (even if i dont explain it well lol) but it will not select one of the spots. I have changed lens....same thing! I am having to take a general focus instead of a specific point.
Ahh, press the AF button on the top and select AF-S in the top LCD.
Then it should work.
Did that already steve....even on different lense....nothing!If i put it on "s" it just stays in the middle...if i put it on the other 2 settings it just selects what ever it wants.
Do a two green button reset and give it a try.
Thats actually one of the first things i did......changed my settings but not my predicament. Am going to Java to photograph temples in a few days....hope we can sort it.
Do you have the focus lock lever on the back pointing to the dot and not the 'L'?
Are you in P,A,S, or M mode (not auto)?
Are you in "Single Point AF"
You should be able to move the "focus box" around via the multi selector.
Let me know.
you got it steve......the focus lock on the back! I should keep this on L right??Anyway it is working now...thanx mate
Sounds excellent.
Happy shooting. The D90 is a great camera.
