yes. All the electronic details display. The playback pictures also display. However, I can't take a picture through the viewfinder. All pictures taken also turn out black.

Unfortunately what you have described indicates that there is a problem with the ccd (the light sensitive chip that produces the image)or the connection to it thats why you are facing this type of problem . So please contact Canon service center because this type of CCD repairing or replacing is not possible at your home. I apologize for this inconvenience.
