how do i go about using my new sony hdr-cx580v video camera to do live webcast

Already Tried:
I plugin the hdmi cord and trying to do a webcast but the computer does not recognize the camera. I am using the site stikam.com to do my live broadcast but cant find the video camera on my computer.

Hello,

Your camcorder is a very nice one, but it is not designed to function as a webcam. You can verify this by connecting your camera to your PC through the USB cable. Your PC should detect it, but most likely won't have an option to capture video with it.

The HDMI port on your computer is for transmitting video out from your computer to a TV. You will need an HDMI capture card to connect your camera to your PC to be used as a webcam. Here is an example of one that you could use that would allow you to stream with your camera.
