We have a canon powershot a 510 camera and are having trouble downloading photos to our computer in our my pictures directory, please help
Already Tried: we tried to follow the directions but are confusing
Hi, My name is XXX X will try my best to assist you with your question today.
before we start make sure your camera battery is charged. Take out the battery and memory card then insert back again. Also restart your computer.
once you have done this we will proceed to next step accordingly.
we are ready
there are two ways to pull pictures off your camera
okay, what can we do
one direct via USB cable and the other one is taking out the SD memory card and plugin to your computer which will open the device just like any other memory card.
Lets try the USB first .. connect the USB to your computer first and then turn on the camera
check for any menu message on your camera which might ask for your permission to connect to computer. normally it is straight plug and play operation you don't need anything it should pop up the window on your computer with the files. If it is not showing any, just go to your my computer and look for additional drive symbol just like your local computer drives. Once you find that either click open or right click and hit explore.
we have connected the cable and turned on the camera
when you connect and power on do you see any additional external drive on your My computer window ?
on my computer we have the canon drive but nothing happens, we nedd to add that we are sr. citizens, please be patient
Please take as much time as you need. I will try my best to assist you.
still looking for drive symbol that you mentioned is it possible for us to connect our daughter on remote assistance to help us talk to you or do we have to call back
I am not sure if that will be possible. Or may be she could connect into your computer via remote assistance.
Are you connecting to a laptop or desktop ?
what i am trying to ask is if you have SD card slot in your computer ? If you do that might be easier and quicker. either way you should see a drive with a symbol in your My Computer and once you click that it will take you directly to the files. you can select individual files or select all and right click and hit copy and then just paste them back into your computer anywhere you like. I hope this will resolve the issue. Please ask for more clarifications of help you need. If you are satisfied with the help don't forget to hit ACCEPT on this answer. thanks
desktop we were disconnected for a minute
we are going to get remote assistance from our daughter and start from square one thanks
ok
we are still trying to resolve our problem, please help
Sorry for the delay. I was of the impression that you will try to have your daughter remote access and go over the procedure from start.
Here few things you should do to try and access pictures from your camera.
1 - Like mentioned earlier restart the computer and camera by taking the battery and memory card out and connect via USB cable to your computer, this should show a removable drive on your My Computer. Once you click that you should be able to access the data/pictures in the camera. You can copy and past the files into your computer for viewing or further use.
2 - If the USB cable option doesn
2- If the USB cable option doesn't work for some reason. If you got an SD card reader on your computer/laptop you should be able to directly insert the SD card from your camera and access the files just like any USB media.
Here is an example of SD card just for your reference.. https://www.thebcgpsstore.ca/Blank-SD-Micro-SD-Data-Cards/
Please let me know if this resolve the issue. Don't hesitate to ask for more clarifications if required. If you are satisfied with the help please don't forget to hit ACCEPT on this answer. Thanks

We are on est, we do not know your time zone
Hi Tas,
I'm the daughter. I have helped my folks to restart the computer and the camera. We've plugged the camera to the computer via the USB cable. The camera does NOT appear as a removable drive in My Computer. I do see a "Local Drive D" in My Computer. However, this does not have any of the camera photo files, so this cannot be the drive for the camera.
Can you please advise what time you would be available and online to assist. I will make sure that I am available whenever you are. Thank you!
What is the latest est that you will be available? Trying to work around our work schedule an your time that you can help thanks
Hello, my name is Rusty. I can help you. I see that you have plugged the camera into your computer, it's just not recognizing the camera. I know of a simple solution to your problem. Click here. You will plug your memory card into this, and plug the device into your USB port. It will automatically be recognized as a flash drive, and you will be able to access your pictures. I have one, and it works great.
we will be available after 6est Is that a good time for you?
I will be out of the office until late tonight. You can buy the device at Best Buy, Radio Shack, or any other store that sells electronics. It is called a "SD to USB adapter."You just plug your SD card into the adapter, and plug the adapter into your USB port on your computer.Click Start (bottom left of your screen), select My Computer, and double click the new drive. Your pictures will be there. This device is plug and play, so there is no setup involved. Just plug it in, allow one minute for the device to install itself, and it's done.
11pm est will be great for us, hope this works for you
I am here.We cannot go back into chat mode, but I will be quick to respond if you have any questions. Did you get the adapter?
We just received your suggestions for obtaining an adapter. The shipping timeline for many of these is 10 days. Will the adapter solve our problem?
You will be very pleased at how easy it is to use it. It's compatible with all computers, so you don't need a driver. It works exactly like a flash drive. Here are the instructions again. You just plug your SD card into the adapter, and plug the adapter into your USB port on your computer. (do not remove the SD card from the adapter while the USB is plugged in)Click Start (bottom left of your screen), select My Computer, and double click the new drive. Your pictures will be there. You can drag and drop them to a folder of your choice.I own one of these, and you can use it to store other files too, just like a flash drive.
