when I press the plunger, the yellow light next to the viewer in the front of the camera goes on but, no picture is taken. no, the lught does not shine on the screen

Unfortunately what you have described indicates that there is a problem with the ccd (the light sensitive chip that produces the image)or the connection to it thats why you are facing this type of problem.So please contact Canon Service center because this type of CCD repairing is not possible at your home.I apologize for this inconvenience.
