My new Nikon J1 will not power up. I have a fully charged

Resolved Question:

My new Nikon J1 will not power up. I have a fully charged battery but the on/off switch does not turn on the camera. Any ideas?

Hello,

 

I would recommend that you take out the batteries first to shut off the camera and wait 15 minutes. Take out the memory stick and leave it out. After 15 minutes put fresh batteries into the camera and press the PLAY/Preview button and hold it down for a few seconds. The camera should power on. Navigate the settings menu and you should have a 'RESET' all. Perform the reset all and check functionality. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I tried your suggestion but the camera did not power on while I was holding down the Play button. I tried my spare abttery with the same results. Bill

It is never an easy fix my friend. I apologize for that. Is there anything else you can tell me about the problem? It sounds to me like the batteries you using are not functioning to power the circuit board. Have you tried or thought of trying an AC adapter? Since it is new can you bring it back?

The camera is only a couple ofweeks old. The batteries seem to charge properly but there is no power coming on when I hit the on/off button. Taking it back is always an option.

Hello,

 

There are small ribbon cables inside the camera that can dislodge during shipping. Other experts will concur. It is not too often I come across a new camera that we cannot get powered on. Don't hesitate if you can take it back. You will hopefully enjoy your new camera for years.
