Hi there. My name is XXXXX XXXXX it would be my pleasure to help with your issue.
No, it does not show up.
Do you remember if the camera prompted you to format the HDD when you first turned it on to start recording?
No, I don't recall.
Is is still at the preparing USB image screen. What it's doing when it says this is checking the file structure of the HDD to make sure that it's in the correct format to show up correctly in Windows.
Yes, it is still 'preparing'.
If it is still at this screen then there's definitely an issue. It could just be a one time thing, but it's very unlikely that you will hurt anything by restarting it. It should only take maybe a minute at the most to do this, but if there is an issue with the file structure of the HDD, it could lock up like this. Try powering off the camera, then removing the USB cable and move it to a different port on your computer, and then re-connecting it. While you have it disconnected, power it on and make sure that you can still review the previously recorded images on the camera's preview monitor.
Just checking the previous images
No problem. I'll be here when you need me
Images are still intact. I switched ports, and reconnected to computer. I selected 'USB Connect'. The 'Preparing' image reappeared on the camera screen, and a small window (with title 'MTP Media Player') appeared on the monitor asking of I want to use Windows Media Player to transfer files, or Take No action. This window isn't explained in the product instructions. What would you suggest I select?
This most likely came up because windows media player is set as the default program for working with the file type that your camera records in. You should be able to select take no action and then follow the procedure that you were originally following using your software that came with your camera.
Ok. I checked 'my computer' again, and the camera still does not show up. Is it possible, following the earlier installation of the 'Image Mastering API' software and automatic computer reboot, that there is additional software to be loaded on the product CD (it is still in the drive)?
Give me just a few minutes to review some information about the Mastering API software. I'm not familiar with this software.
Check the installation CD to see if you have Picture motion browser on the CD
No, the installation CD doesn't have that file. I looked at all of the software on my computer, and I did not find any Sony software. Should I try to start over from scratch?
Yes. That would probably be best. You should be able to right click on your CD drive and click explore and see exactly what's on your CD. Let me know what's there
I've got the manual for your camera pulled up now so that I can follow along with you. The program that you need to transfer your videos is the Picture Motion Browser software. It may be called PMB on the disk.
I will search for it. Be right back.
There are over 1600 PMB files. It appears there are 2 main ones: PMB.cab and PMB.msi
The one you are looking for would be an exe file or a installer file.
Does the label on the CD mention anything about this program. Most of the time it comes on a CD by itself.
I'm looking for somewhere you can download the software, but there's not a full version that I can find anywhere. The only thing that's offered on the Sony website is an update.
These are the EXE files on the CD:
No problem. I think I've found a full version of the software available from Sony India, but i haven't used this link before. Lets make sure first that it's no on your CD before we try going that route.
You are on the right track. Give me the possible exe files and I should be able to make sense of them for you
The exe files are :handbook; install; setup; registration; spuregistration; dxsetup; infinst; dxdllreg
If The program is on the CD it would most likely be the Install or the setup. Try the setup.exe and see what it installs
This is running a PMB installer. This might be what I needed. I will let you know when it completes the installation.
Great. I think this will get you going. You should be able to follow the instructions on page 50 of your manual once it's done to get it transferred. Let me know if there's anything else that I can do to help. I'll be here when you need me.
PMB installed. Software did not re-boot computer. Software registration did not take place. Tried Registration.exe, but was told that PMB was still running. Software said to connect camera to computer using USB cable and follow instructions in manual. Connected USB, and pressed 'Connect USB' on camera screen. Nothing is taking place, and computer still does not recognize camera connection.
Did you try pressing menu>setup>connection>set it to usb connection
Also, check the media select setting in the camera menu to make sure that it's correctly set to look to the correct recording media
USB Connect setting = auto; Media select = internal (I don't have removable memory yet)
Ok. If there is a setting in the connect setting menu, change it to USB or Mass storage. Then try rebooting your computer with the camera connected and powered on and see if the PMB transfer window comes up.
I will try that now.
I'm going to have to leave home at 1:30 for the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately the computer (desktop) still doesn't recognize my camera. Can I reconnect this chat later today (I will leave this computer (laptop) on and connected), or tomorrow, or do I need to start a new chat? I appreciate your help.
No problem. I had to step away from my computer for a little while myself. I'll be here when you get back. You can continue this chat session. I'll leave it open. When you return just post here and JA will send me an email.
Have made progress: computer recognizes camera, all software is loaded (at least appears to be), and camera is registered with Sony. Still working on PMB software recognizing the videos on camera. That is an issue for tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
No problem. That's good that you got it registered. When you start over today on it, do just that. Go back to the page in the manual that discusses the issue and start from the beginning. I believe it was page 50. If you cannot get the PMB software to work correctly, then you may be able to just copy and paste the videos by clicking on the removable disk if it shows up in my computer. Once you have everything backed up to your computer, then format the memory of the camera using the camera's setup menu, then take another test video and try it. It may be that the HDD of the camera wasn't correctly formatted prior to taking videos on it. If the file structure isn't just right on the HDD, it may keep the software from recognizing the folders that contain the videos. If there is anything else that I can do to help let me know. I'll be here when you need me.
Please don't forget to accept and leave positive feedback if I've been helpful. Thanks!!!
