Err 05 comes up... says built in flash could not be raised

This answer was rated:

Err 05 comes up... says "built in flash could not be raised" it actually is up?? what's up?

There are a few things that can cause this error. Since the flash "pops up" when the camera is used in low light (depending on the mode of operation) Err 05 will be displayed, indicating that there is a problem with a sensor switch located in the hotshoe (external flash mount). If this gets dirty or blocked, the camera thinks that an external flash is mounted and stops the "pop up" flash from operating correctly. Use a tooth brush to clean the switch area (see below) Try this procedure first, take a few shots and let me know the result. If it is unsuccessful we will move to the next step.
