I am trying to transfer home video (8mm) to DVD via Sony Multifunction DVD recorder. I've recorded about 10 or so DVDs but now I keep getting "Copyright protection detected - unable to record" in the middle of one of my transfers but it has recorded the beginning of my 8 mm tape. I've tried using several DVDs but nothing seems to work.
Optional Information: Make: Sony Multifunction DVD recorder Already Tried: Starting and stopping. Unplugging. Another DVD.
If all your other 8mm video tapes do record on your Sony DVD recorder... then there must be a portion of the video tape in question that is recorded improperly. What probably happened is that the when the 8mm tape was started to record in the middle of the video tape.... the tape probably did not thread correctly around the head or tape guides and was not properly aligned to record properly on your tape... so the Sony DVD recorder detected the improperly recorded video and gave you the message "Copyright protection detected - unable to record"
Try playing your 8mm tape into another VCR or TV monitor and then output the video signal into the Sony DVD recorder... this might clean up your video signal so it can be recorded by the Sony DVD recorder.
