Fred, can you upload a photo(s) of these sore bumps to our conversation? You can use the paperclip icon in the toolbar above your message box (if you can see that icon) or you can use an external app such as dropbox.com/

I'm concerned that they represent mast cell tumors. When mast cells degranulate (the granules inside them break open) they release histamine which causes swelling as you've described. This doesn't respond to penicillin but might respond to a glucocorticosteroid such as prednisone...at least temporarily. An antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) dosed at 1-2mg/lb (maximum of 50 mg at any one time) might be palliative but not expected to be as effective as prednisone.

The swelling may also indicate lymphedema - lymph vessels congested with malignant cells from a tumor elsewhere in Ben's body or from the elbow area.
