Customer Question

My male cat has not gone pee or poo in the last 24 hrs. he just lays there. His stomach seams large. He just vomited his meals for the full day today. He's had Kidney problems before. Had to be cathed. I have a vet appointment in the 9:00 morning. Will it be ok till then, that's about 9 hrs from now.

Hi, I am an experienced veterinarian and happy to help!

Before we start please note:

This is meant to be a continuous chat, and for this reason it is very IMPORTANT that you reply using the REPLY TO EXPERT button, BEFORE rating, if more information is needed at any time.

Veterinarian101 :

Passing pee is more of concern than poo.

Veterinarian101 :

Is he passing any pee at all?

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

No

Veterinarian101 :

So not even small bits with straining?

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

No

Veterinarian101 :

And it has been 24 hours since the last pee is that correct?

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

At least. not sure there are 2 others cats here. But I noticed today he was straining and nothing.

Veterinarian101 :

Ok.

Veterinarian101 :

The biggest concern is that his bladder will be reasonably full after 24 hours of no peeing.

Veterinarian101 :

He has had one vomit is that correct?

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

Yes

Veterinarian101 :

Ok. The vomit indicates that he probably has some toxic products building up in his blood stream because of not urinating.

Veterinarian101 :

I think you need to get him to a vet now - sorry

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

Thank you

Veterinarian101 :

If you leave him the toxic products can build up further and affect the brain and also the bladder can burst.

Veterinarian101 :

Best wishes.

Veterinarian101 :

Can I help any further tonight?

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

So tonight not in the morning

Veterinarian101 :

Yes - NOW please

JACUSTOMER-o8s982bu- :

Thank you.

Veterinarian101 :

My pleasure.
