Customer Question

My lab woke up this morning and is unable to wag his tail or sit down. He is drinking water, regular bowel movements and eating but just appears to be in pain when he tries to sit or when i touch his tail.
He was quite upset about 5:30 this morning with whatever was outside.
Should I seek medical treatment today or wait and see if he just bruised it somehow and determine if he is better this afternoon?

Good Morning and welcome to Just answer. I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.

Most likely Sammy has injured an area f his tail or a disc in his back that is causing this pain. Since he is eating well and does not show any other serious signs, you are safe to give the Deramaxx twice per day for the next few days to see if the inflammation will resolve and this area heals. Of course,if there is no change, then you will have to take Sammy to your vet for diagnostics. Chances are, this will resolve with the help of the anti inflammatory medication.

Good Luck!

Sincerely, XXXXX XXXXX
