Rebeccavet : Hi JACustomer,
Rebeccavet : My name is XXXXXXX XXX I am a licensed veterinarian.
Rebeccavet : There are devices called " pill guns" that can be used. You can get them at pet stores and veterinary offie
Rebeccavet : Offices.
Rebeccavet : Have you tried Pill Pockets?
Rebeccavet : Or liverworts?
Rebeccavet : I meant liverwurst.
Customer :

Hello, thanks for your help. We have tried the pill gun and it is not working. She is not eating so food is not an option. They are pills for pain from an exploratory surgery.

Rebeccavet : So she will not eat anything? And trying to hide pills in things like Pill Pockets or liverwurst won't work?
Customer :

Are there pill guns with more force

Rebeccavet : No. Too much force could damage the back of her mouth.
Rebeccavet : The trick is to get the
Customer :

She will not eat at this time

Rebeccavet : Pill gun over the back of the tongue before depressing the plunger.
Rebeccavet : If you just use the pill gun to push the pill into their mouth it won
Rebeccavet : It won't work. You have to slide it over the tongue.
Customer :

Thanks we will give it another try.

Rebeccavet : If she is not eating anything, I am worried she could be dehydrated.
Rebeccavet : Is she at least drinking?
Customer :

yes

Rebeccavet : That is good.
Rebeccavet : But if I were her surgeon, I would be worried that she is not eating at all or getting her pain mediciation.
Rebeccavet : Pain medication can be made up as a liquid, or given by injection. I guess there is not way to contact her surgeon?
Customer :

He is out of town but we may take her to his backup, thanks

Rebeccavet : Sounds like a good plan.
Rebeccavet : Anything else I can answer?
Customer :

not at this time, thanks

Rebeccavet : You are welcome. Hope she is eating for you soon so she can get her meds.
