Dr. Steven Osborne :

Hi, I'm Dr Steve. How is he acting now and how long has this been going on?

Dr. Steven Osborne :

I will check shortly to see your reply.

Customer :

he"s dribbling and walk all around moaning. he was bitting on an apple early maybe he eat a seed. i just happened, he just woke up like this

Dr. Steven Osborne :

If it has been a while since he ate the apple, I would expect any trouble from the apple to occur shortly after eating it. If he has been normal until now, he may be having an allergic reaction to something. It is hard to know what he may have been allergic to, but his symptoms are consistent with an allergic reaction. The dribbling is not as alarming as the moaning.

Dr. Steven Osborne :

The best thing to do is to take him to an er vet. If this is truly an allergic reaction, it is possible that he could get worse and develop breathing problems. If an er vet is not availabel or an option, I have had clients give oral benadryl at 1 mg per pound. THis can help reduce the severity if an allergic reaction in some cases.

Dr. Steven Osborne :

This is not a substitute for taking him to a vet, but may help if a vet is not possible. If you can't find a vet tonight, he shol dbe seen in the morning if he is stil showing these symptoms. If he gets worse or starts breathing with difficulty or short labored breaths, then you may need to go further to find a vet to look at him and treat him as neeeded.

Dr. Steven Osborne :

THis can become an emergency that needs quick treatment if possible, You may want to sleep with him close to you so you know if he gets worse throughout the night.

Customer :

no vets are open right now its 3 a.m., is there anything i can do or give him. he stopped moaning but is still dribbing i only have piriton will that work?

Dr. Steven Osborne :

I am not familiar with piriton what is the active ingredient please?

Customer :

chlorphenamine maleate

Dr. Steven Osborne :

That is another antihistamine that I have used. Let me calculate a dosage for you. I will be right back.

Dr. Steven Osborne :

What concentrationis he piriton?

Customer :

each 5mg contains 2mg of chlorphenamine maleate

Dr. Steven Osborne :

Ok the dose that I have used for small dogs is 2 mg orally twice a day. This may help reduce the symptoms he isexperiencing. I hope this has helped. Customer :

thank you, if it work do i still take him to the vet. n how will they know what he allergic too?

Customer :
Dr. Steven Osborne :

It is often difficult or impossible to determine what he is allergic to. If he isnormal tomorrow it would still be a good idea to take him to the vet to havehim examined to be sure there is nothing else that could be causing him difficulty.
