Dr. Andy :

Welcome to JustAnswer! I would be happy to assist you. I am a 2003 graduate from UC Davis and a Medical Director of a 4 veterinarian practice.

Dr. Andy :

could the worms causing scratching? Yes, that actually is possible

Dr. Andy :

Not surprised, at all, to see worms now.

Dr. Andy :

That is why vets recommend deworming starting at 3 weeks of age, and should be repeated EVERY 3 weeks up until about 16 weeks of age. Very common practice.

Dr. Andy :

However, there could be a separate issue like early mange (mites). That could be demodex or scabies. So, if scratching persists, he may need to get into a vet for simple skin scraping test.

Dr. Andy :

Make sure to deworm again at 11 and 13-14 weeks of age.

Dr. Andy :

Hope that info helps

Dr. Andy :

Good Luck
