Customer Question

Our dog has thrown up 5 times now (in 1 day). She has never had any stomach problems and is as healthy as a horse. We fed her just white rice and she can't even keep that down. Now, she is throwing up (yellow) bile and cannot even keep water down. I am really worried. Should we take her to an emergency room today? Am i overreacting? It is now Sunday at 1am so we'd have to wait until mornng and take her to an emergency (vet) room.

As long as she is reasonably bright and alert I would hold off water for 12 hours and food for 24 hours.

If the vomiting continues despite this or she becomes very quiet then you will need to go to your ER vet.

When you bring them back onto water and food just give small amounts initially and gradually build it up to a normal meal.

For food just give boiled skinless chicken breast and white rice.

Hope this helps

I knew the above already (searched the internet and found the same answers as you stated above for no cost), and in fact we haven't fed her anything since this morning (now more than 12 hours ago) and she is till throwing up. I can't believe she even has anything left inside of her. What I was looking for was more of an answer of what is wrong with her.

She has been somewhat alert but has already become very quiet - as she normally is a very playful and active dog and (for the last 12 hours) has just been sitting on her pillow.

She most likely has an infection or possibly and obstruction in her intestines. These are the most likely problems.

Other possibly problems are endless but examples include diabetes, liver problems, kidney issues etc.

As it has already been 12 hours then you need to get to your ER for your dog to go on IV fluids.
