Hello and thanks for posting. I am Dr. A and will do my best to help you
Hello there! I commend you for doing your research before getting a pet.
do guinea pigs carry any diseases
that can be transmitted to people and are of concern -no
how old are your children?
so they do not carry bacteria like salomenalla
guinea pigs are great little pets, but they do like a lot of socialization and if not handled from a young age, can bite. It is important to find a little pig than is socialized from a young age
no- guinea pigs are not natural carriers of salmonella-that is more turtles and other reptiles
Thanks for the advice
guinea pigs can get messy, so the kids (or you) have to commit to cage cleaning and they are also interesting creatures in that they need a daily source of vitamin C
or they can get scurvy-vit C deficiency
if you google oxbow animal health, there is a good general guide to GP's.. great pets and "sturdier" than the little mice and hamsters
you are most welcome--I have a soft spot for guinea pigs!
