What to do with swollen area under skin after tick removal

What to do with swollen area under skin after tick removal?

There is nothing you need to do with this area. The tick will cause an immune response under the skin and inflammatory cells will come to the area- this causes the swelling and heat. This will resolve on it's own over 3-5 days.

If you want to give an anti-inflammatory, the one over the counter med safe in dogs is Aspirin at a dose of 5 mg per lb every 12-24 hours as needed.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Do I need to worry about the possibility of the tick's head still being embedded?
No, the tick will die without the head so there is no problem there either. It will be broken down by the body with this inflammatory reaction.
