Okay, I am very sorry to hear about the eye. With a sudden onset of swelling in only one eye, I quickly get worried about possible trauma and subsequent corneal ulcers. Often, these cannot be seen with the naked eye. So, absolutely, I am strongly recommending you get into a vet, any vet, today for some basic care. After a simple eye stain test, the vet can prescribe some quick medication that will be very helpful and can treat or prevent infection. Eye Stain Test for UlcersDo not use any eye solutions for people. The only thing I would even consider flushing the eye out with is water or just plain saline. I can't rule-out a allergic reaction, so giving benadryl is advisable, whether you can get into a vet right now or not. Benadryl can be given at a dose of 1mg per pound of body weight. Keep in mind, Benadryl tablets and liquids come in different sizes. So, an approximately 25 pound dog can get a full 25mg tablet or a half of a 50mg tablet. I usually avoid the liquid Benadryl in larger dogs (you would have to give too much of it). You can give Benadryl every 8-12 hours.
