A few weeks ago my 2 yr. old male cat was treated for a UTI with amoxicillan. Now he is not able to urinate again but keeps trying, his nose is dry and warm, he is constantly drinking water, he is attacking my other two cats if they come near him and he is throwing up about every 30 to 45 min. I cannot afford the emergency weekend vet. I have been giving him cranberry capsules and bladder paste with his food. Is there anything else we can do for him until our vet can see him tomorrow? Anything to bring him comfort?
Hi there. I'm so sorry this is happening to your cat.You REALLY need to get him to a vet immediately if he is not able to urinate at all as his bladder may rupture. Also, that extra urine pressure backs up into the kidneys and can cause permanent damage to his kidneys. Inability to urinate is an EMERGENCY! The vomiting is not a good sign. It means that he is painful and likely has toxins building up in his system from not being able to eliminate them through the urine. If he is at least able to urinate a little you can wait until tomorrow. There is nothing else you can give him at home at this point. Cats cannot take over the counter anti-inflammatory medications and even if you could give it to him he likely wouldn't be able to keep it down because he is vomiting.Let me know if you have more questions.Dr. Hinson
Good luck! I hope all goes well!
