Customer Question

My dog is acting like she is in pain. She is moving slower, lying down all day, won't climb stairs. She vomited once about 7 hours ago. She is an eleven year old that has been in great health and fairly active.

There are no vets open in our area until Monday,
Any suggestions?

Hello, I am Dr. Peter a licensed Veterinarian. I would like to help. I need to ask you a few questions to be well informed and give you the best advise. There is no additional charge for information request.

1- Any pre existing medical conditions?

2- Is she on any medications?

3- Take a look at her gums and see if they are pink or pale?

4- Can you take a rectal temperature?

Customer replied 717 days and 14 hours ago.

No pre-existing Medical Conditions
No Medications
Her gums look pale
Rectal temperature is 101.4

Moving slower than usual can be secondary to pain. But, it can also be secondary to not feeling well caused by a systemic disease. Her temperature is Normal. Having pale gums is a big concern because it means she is either anemic, cardiopulmonary disease, low blood pressure, blood shifting to more dependent organs, etc. which all these possible causes will make her move or walk slower than usual.

Unfortunately, in this case there is really nothing I can recommend except to limit her physical activity. I understand your vet is not open until Monday, but, I would highly recommend trying to find a vet in a near town and not to wait until Monday. She needs to have a hands on exam, blood work and +/- xrays to determine the exact cause of her symptoms and treat accordingly. I truly understand it is not the answer you may not want to hear, but, it is the only option.

Hope the above helps, if you have additional questions I will be glad to answer them.
