Customer Question

My 14+ year old cat has been throwing-up a lot when I feed her certain canned cat food (not all) and she recently (last month or so) has developed a really bad behavior problem of chewing on plastic, paper, and cardboard until I feed her and she wants to be fed A LOT daily. She, also, meows constantly (I feel like sh is telling me she's sick). Also, she has a small cyst on her back that developed and grew just a little bit when these problems started. The cyst is where she's gotten some shots before. Thank you so much for your help!!

Optional Information:
Type of Animal: Cat
Gender: Female
Age: 14 + years

Already Tried:
I changed her canned cat food to canned cat food for senior cats and her dried cat food (for senior cats, also), also, and that has helped with the vomiting but the chewing on things and meowing and demanding more food is getting worse.

Hello:

An elderly cat such as yours, with a huge appetite, inappropriate behavior (meowing) and pica (eating strange things), needs to have some blood work done to see if she is diabetic, hyperthyroid, or has some other metabolic problem.

I think the cyst is a separate problem which developed coincidently at the same time. While your kitty is having an exam your vet could check out the cyst to make sure that it is non-cancerous.

I wish you the best,

Dr. Lisa
