Hello, I'm Dr. Bob.
There are two very effective antibiotics for anal gland infections, Lincocin and Clavamox.
They should be given for 7 - 10 days.
If you should have further questions, please let me know.

I am a physician - could you give me a dose for my 50lb dog - thanks
Expert:  Dr. Bob replied 7 years ago.
Sure, 500 mg of Lincocin (Lincomycin) B.I.D. or Calvamox (Augmentin) 250 - 500 mg B.I.D.
Of the two, I prefer the Lincocin, as it is less likely to cause GI upsets.
Hot packing the area twice daily with a hot wet washcloth tends to be very beneficial, and seems to speed resolution of the problem.
Good luck!
