I purshased a mini-wenner dog from a old man the end of last week. He said he was 6 weeks old but, I don't think he is that old. He had a lot of trouble eating, so i got him the milk to wing him. Last night he stopped eating all together, just drinking a little water. So today I watered down his food and made him eat it. He can not stop vomiting. My question is what should I do?
Hi, I am Dr. Peter and would like to help.
1- Does he have diarrhea?
2- Is he lethargic or himself?
He is lethargic and I haven't had him long enough to know his personality because he has been sick sense i have had him. But he is extremely thin.
Does he have diarrhea?
No, h does not
Did he eat the food that you offered?
At first yes, but yesterday and today he would eat on his own.
In a puppy common things that would cause him to vomit are parasites, foreign body, viruses, etc. I will recommend that you rub some pancake syrup, honey or nutrical on his gums. Give him 4 hours without food or water. Then offer a small amount of water. If he does not vomit in half hour then offer small amounts of rice and boneless chicken. If no vomiting, leave him on this diet for several days then wean into regular diet. If he continues to vomit, then, he needs a hands on exam by your vet. Regardless, you should consider having checked by your vet and getting him dewormed.
If he stops eating completely make certain to continue giving him some pancake syrup, honey or nutrical on his gums. These puppies can very easily become hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) if go longer then 5-6 hours without any food. This will make them weak, vomiting and even seizure. To avoid this, keep using the syrup.
If you have additional questions I will be glad to answer them.
