Customer Question

My cats are homebound. They do not go outside at all. , Molly, 6 yr old blue caleco she quints her left eye. There is clear drainage, like when we poke our eye we tear up for awhile. I do not know if she scratched or poked it when playing with Bubba the othercat. There is no crusting, no infection or pus coming out. She does not favor it by rubbing it. I have been dapping very gently around her eye. Thank you Claudia Coon(NNN) NNN-NNNN Could I use liquid boric acid on it? Thank you and god bless.

Hello Claudia, I'm Dr. Bob. How long have you noticed the squinting of Molly's eye?

Hello again. Molly may have a very mild infection, a scratch on her cornea, something caught under her lid, or an irritation of the nerve to the eye.
Being aware of these and other possible causes, boric acid is fine to try for a couple of days to see if you can get the problem to clear. Use it warm, one drop in the affected eye three times daily.
If you see any kind of discharge, change in the appearance of the eye or Molly begins to rub or paw at her eye, you have better seek veterinary attention for her.
If I may be of further assistance, please let me know.
Dr. Bob
