so for the past 5 days my 5 yr old cat has been pooping soft poop and it's very stinky. I tried on saturdy to buy him better and most natural food to see if that would help but it didn't. there is no blood nor is he sneezing. I really don't have money to take him to the vet so I don't know what to do, any suggestions? thank you
Optional Information: Type of Animal: long haired catGender: maleAge: 4 years old Already Tried: changed his food to more expensive and more natural food, new litter, he's never been outside. tried pet pectillin for diarhea, but it's not diarhea he's got. cat nip. some tlc. the poop gets in his hair and goes all over the apartement, so I cut most of the hair on his tail and near his anus.
Hi there- I need some more info so I can try to help. How old is your cat? Is she on any medications? How is she acting other than the stool problem? Any vomiting? Talk to you soon, Dr Karen
he's 4 years old. he's not on any meds. and he's acting normal like my usual lovable cat. no vomitting or anything.
Hi again- Thanks for the extra info. There are a couple of over the counter medications you can try at home for soft smelly stool in cats if you cannot get her to the vet right away. If she starts to vomit, stop eating, or otherwise acts sick, you should stop and take her in right away. The first medication you can try is pepto-bismol. You can give about 1/4th of a teaspoon by mouth every 12 hours for 3 days. OR, you can try human Imodium- the dose would be 1/2 tablet or 1/4th teaspoon by mouth three times a day for 2 days. If the medication doesn't work, a trip to the vet is definitely warranted. The vet would need to check for intestinal parasites. Also, cats can get inflammatory bowel disease or pancreatic problems that can begin to show themselves in otherwise healthy young cats as diarrhea/soft, smelly stools. Hope this helps, write back if you have more questions, Dr Karen
