She is 7 years old We live in the willamette valley, eugene, OR. using garlic oil for parasite and worm control and yes she is very itchy
Hello, Possibilities include primary or secondary superficial pyoderma (skin infection). Fleas could be responsible. We are at the height of flea season. Pyoderma could also be secondary to mites, sarcoptic mange. Allergies could cause a dog to itch enough to also cause pyoderma. Food allergies are much less common than inhalant allergies (mold, mildew, dust mites, pollen). Unfortunately, garlic oil is not a very effective flea preventive. The infection needs to be treated with oral antibiotics for a minimum of three weeks. I would also advice using a topical flea/parasite preventive such as Advantage or Revolution. we use frontline on a regular basis. Is benadril ok for the itching while we figure out the cause?
Hello, Unfortunately, most anti-histamines, including Benadril, are almost completely ineffective in relieving the itch in dogs due to allergy or skin infection. Don't waste your money.
