dog: eyes..excessively..allergies..happening for the past two days.

Customer Question

my dog eyes are tearing up excessively with a white milky fluid. It's not constant and I'm wondering if it could be allergies? It has been happening for the past two days. Anything I can use to rinse his eyes out or should I get him to a vet?

Hi there,

I would highly recommend that you do see your vet about this. It would be reasonable to make sure this is not an infection, or tear duct problem, etc.

In the meantime, you can try gently flushing the eyes out with a sterile saline solution than can be purchased over the counter at your local supermarket - usually found on the same shelves with the contact solution.

If you would like, you can also administer Benadryl. The dose will be 1mg for every 1 pound of body weight. For example, a 50 pound dog should receive 50mg of benadryl. You can start and then give a dose every 12 hours thereafter. Please be certain it is the product consisting of only Diphenhydramine and DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OTHER INGREDIENTS SUCH AS A DECONGESTANT.
If you choose to use that please read here about cautions

I hope this information helps - Please let me know if you have any other questions!
