Hello there,
Please be patient, as I may be in the operating room, with a patient, or driving but will get back to you ASAP.

I think you just suffered a little trauma and irritation to the area. Nothing worrisome for sure. It sounds like it is getting better and there is no sign of an infection at all so do not worry about this. You should be find. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your answer - just to be a little more clear - how long would you think it will take to settle down - I am going overseas in 10 days (alone) and do not want to be consulting doctors overseas - I have not had any unusual discharge and will not be having intercourse prior to going overseas - would it be reasonable to expect that it would have settled within that timeframe? thanks

Sorry for the delay as I was in surgery. Yes, I would expect this to have settled in the next 10 days before your trip. If it has not then yes you will want to be seen before leaving. However, I think you will be fine. Hope this helps.
