60 year old male.At annual exam, urologist said size of prostate felt fine. PRobably due to chinese herbs I've been taking.PSA test showed level at 0.76.He also said there is a definite firmness on one side of the prostate gland. Therefore, he wants to do an immediate biopsy. Are the above results enough reason for me to let him do a biopsy, or should I wait a while?
Optional Information: Person's Gender: Male Person's Age: 60 Already Tried: Chinese herbal remedy which has helped considerably with low, intermittent flow.
Thanks for your question. If I don't respond to you immediately, it is because I am busy with a patient. I WILL get back to you ASAP.ANy firmness or nodule of the prostate automatically overrides all other findings and lab tests and is an indication to do a biopsy immediately. Your doctor is recommending the correct diagnostic procedure. Prostate cancer can occur at all PSA levels and this is why a biopsy has to be done when firmness if felt. Hope this helps.
