Hi,
HiSo If you are able to pass urine, then it is not an emergency.Only if you are not able to pass any urine at all then you have to go to the ER for insertion of the catheter. This problem can be due to an enlarged prostate which is common for this age and can be corrected with medications like tamsulosin, silodosin and finasteride.Other cause is infection of the prostate which can make the passage of urine very difficult and painful. But it is usually associated with fever, severe pain or burning while passing urine.SInce you have minimal symptoms of infection, the chances are high that this problem is due to the prostate. So it is better to see your doctor as soon as possible when you come back to home. But if symptoms worsen or you are not able to pass the urine at all, then you need to go to ER for medical care and tube drainage of urine.I hope this answers your question .RegardsDr.Tharun
