My father had a prostate biopsy the end of March. He got and infection of the most resistant strain of Ecoli and was in the ICU for 12 days. They then released him and the infection came back about a week later. It has now been 3 months and the infection has come back 4 times - they cannot figure out why it keeps coming back. They have done an MRI and are going to do a catscan of his kidneys.Any suggestions? Do you know what hospital or doctors are the top in their field that I could contact regarding his situation? My Dad is 75 years old and is operating at about 25 % of what he was before the biopsy. He keeps getting weaker - tonight he got up from his chair and slipped and fell and hit his head on the bookshelves. About a month ago, he fell in the bathroom and got a big gash in his head. Please help!!! Or if you know any specialists I could contact I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your question. If I don't respond to you immediately, it is because I am either in the OR or traveling. I WILL get back to you ASAP.I'm sorry to hear about his situation. If the infection keeps recurring, he should have a CT scan of the pelvis to look specifically at the prostate to see if there is an abscess that may have formed and can lead to chronic infections. They should also CT the kidneys as well to make sure there is no infection there either. If his doctor can;t figure this out, his best option is to go to the closest university medical center urology practice where they have the most up to date training to help treat this problem. But based on the fact that he is so weak that he is slipping and hitting is head, it sounds like you need to bring him to the ER right away for admission to the hospital to figure out why he is getting so weak. The infection may be returning and may need treatment again. Hope this helps.
