Thank you for the input. The urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria gets entry through the urethra. This can also occur from infection through blood but this is uncommon. In case of females the chances of urine infection is more as woman's urethra is much shorter than a man's, so bacteria have less distance to travel from outside the body to the bladder. In female the position of urethra close to vagina & anus also facilitates bacteria to enter the bladder. Sexual intercourse can precipitate the infection. Some preventive measures are taking plenty of fluid, wiping from front to back when using restroom, using shower rather than tub, urinating frequently rather than to hold it for long time, avoiding deodorant sprays or douches in the genital regions. As you are suffering for many years, you should have a referral for an urologist. If no other significant cause is detected sometimes antibiotics like trimethoprim, nitrofurantoin are prescribed in low dose for long time to prevent recurrent infection. If you have any query, please feel free to ask.It will be my privilege to assist you. Regards.
