How often do I need to take Cipro 1000mg and Amoxil 500mg each day to treat gonorrhea ? How many days should I continue this ? Do you recommend a medication other than this for gonorrhea, and if so, what would the treatment schedule be ?

Hello there,Please be patient, as I may be in the operating room, with a patient, or driving but will get back to you ASAP.Treatment for gonorrhea includes cefixime 400mg one pill or ceftriaxone given 250mg shot one time. This would be the medication I recommend, however, you can take Cipro 500mg once also. Amoxacillin dose is 2 grams once by mouth and also 1 gram pill of probenacid. All these treatments are one time doses. You should be okay with the Cipro and Amoxacillin, however, there are other ones that work well also as written above. Hope this helps and let me know if you have further questions. Thanks.
I thought antibiotics were to be taken over a prescribed period of time ? You're saying that my taking one pill of the cefixime 400mg or one pill of the Cipro 500mg is all that would be needed ? I wouldn't need to continue taking this for a week or two ?
Yes, the majority of treatments for gonorrhea are just single dose treatments. Please look at this chart I provided on the recommended treatment. Doxycycline is the only treatment regimen recommended for several days.I would recommend cefixime over Cipro however, as there can be resistance to Cipro and it is emerging.Recommended RegimensCeftriaxone 250 mg IM in a single doseOR, IF NOT AN OPTIONCefixime 400 mg orally in a single doseORSingle-dose injectible cephalosporin regimensPLUSAzithromycin 1g orally in a single doseORDoxycycline 100 mg orally twice a day for 7 daysLet me know of follow-up questions.
Is Suprax the same as Cefixime ?
