Customer Question

Have what looks like a stretch mark on penis. The area of the streach mark is slighty more white than the rest of the skin in the area. Also the skin is lightly more rough. Have no pain or discomfort. Doesnt look like a blister or rash. It looks like a streatch mark. What could this be?

Hello there,

How old are you? Are you circumcised? Any history of sexually transmitted infections? Any recent unprotected sexual intercourse?

Ill be glad to help.

I am 30. I am circumcised. To my knowledge I dont have any std's. Two years ago I had unprotected sex. After which I went to the doctor and was tested (the test came back negative). Since then I have always had protected sex.

Hello,

The two most common diagnoses are a fungal skin infection from an organism such as Candida or something called leukoplakia (white scaly plaques that form from chronic irritation). Leukoplakia is associated with cancer is a minority of cases and it is usually associated with squamous cell cancer of the penis - circumcision as a newborn virtually eliminates the risk of this type of cancer.

A course of topical steroids and antibiotics seems wise. If it doesnt resolve, you should see a urologist for further evaluation.

Hope this helps,

Dr Patel
