i do not know if i have a utr No...i was self employed untill 1998..but then retired.

Hello, I am Keith, one of the experts on Just Answer, and pleased to be able to help you with your question.

Your UTR is a five digit number followed by another five digit number, NNNNN NNNNN. These days it is often the same as your reference at your tax office, mine certainly is. You can find it for sure on any tax assessment you may have received in the past.

As you are starting out self employed you must register with HMRC. You can find how to do that here:

Almost certainly that will, in die course, reveal your UTR.
