This answer was rated:

HI SAM. HELPING MY FATHER COMPLETE HIS SA 2013 TAX RETURN ONLINE. HE WAS BORN IN 1943 AND HMRC HAVE ONLY ALLOCATED HIM £9,845 PERSONAL ALLOWANCES. THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE £10,500. HE HAS £3K INTEREST £8K DIVIDENDS & £15K OF STATE / PRIVATE PENSIONS. ANY REASON WHY THE ALLOWANCES WOULD ONLY BE £9,845?
Hello and welcome to the site. Thank you for your question.

I am another expert on this site and I am happy to help you.

Your father has been given a lower personal allowance of £9,845 because his total income has exceeded £25,400 in tax year 2012-13. Allowance is reduced by £1 for each £2 of income which exceeds the income limit.

I hope this is helpful and answers your question.
