We had a power cut yesterday and now we have no hot water

Customer Question

Hi we had a power cut yesterday and now we have no hot water or heating. The power cut didn't cause anything in the fusebox to trip. It is a valiant scotch plus boiler. If I press the indicator button it shows "S.3". The seperate thermostat is on. Any idea how to fix it?

Hi my name is ***** ***** lets see if we can get you sorted in the shortest possible time.
Can you confirm the model please - is it a scotch?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorry it's a vaillant ecotech plus

Ok, that's better
S3 is the status code for heating ignition.
It may be a simple fix if your boiler has not been serviced for a while?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It was serviced in September

Ok, can you hear the fan running?
If not inside then try outside by the flue?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I can't hear anything
Expert:  Andrew Smith replied 1 year ago.
It sounds like the fan is not working.
Are you able to take the cover off and check power to the fan?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sorry I wouldn't have a clue how to do that. Any tips?
Expert:  Andrew Smith replied 1 year ago.
Usually 2 screws underneath and the cover hooks off
