our nissan x trail has started to sound very noisy when driving along...like a loud drone, which isn't there when travelling at low speed or stationary. Any ideas?

Hello, I hope I can offer you some assistance.

From the description you've given this will be a wheel bearing starting to fail. You may find that as you turn the steering the noise may change as the load on the bearing changes.

You need the wheels off the ground to check for play and roughness in each bearing to locate which one is causing the concern.

Let me know if I can assist further.

Best wishes,

Sean.

Hi
Thanks for your response, which makes perfect sense. I did look at some similar comments on a nissan blog which pointed to the same thing. It would be useful to have a rough idea of cost if possible, although i know this will vary from garage to garage.
Thanks
JG

Hello again,

either front or rear bearing replacement should be no more than 2 hours labour. The parts are available for around £60, unless a replacement hub is required which pushes the cost up to around £240 for the part.

Obviously your local garage will be cheaper than a main dealer, the parts are normally cheaper from a local motor factors than a main dealer.

Best wishes,

Sean.
