Nissan Micra 2001. Key loose in ignition/shakey, when trying to start engine sometimes cuts out. i bought the car with one key. I was going to buy a new key but not sure if i should if there is more important stuff needing done

Country: United Kingdom

Model: Micra
Year: 2001

Already Tried:
Replaced battery ,spark plugs ,all wiring seems ok. Cant think of anything other than something wrong with the unit(ignition ) or the key itself

Hi..

Is the key itself/blade look to be worn?

Have you tried gently moving the key around itself in the ignition with the engine on to see if doing that causes the engine to cut out?

Key is very worn on both sides. Moving the key can cause the engine to cut out.

Ok..

I would say you could be right..in that the key maybe your problem here if its always been the only the key used and it is as you say quite worn out which not surprising really and maybe causing issues with the reader coil actually picking up the key when its in the ignition..the only other problem could be the ignition barrel itself worn out..but quite often it that was the case then it would be difficult to actually turn the key and get the steering lock off etc...all you can do really at this stage is to aquire another key for the car and have it programmed and hopefully its sort out the problem you have..on these i believe its a maximum of 4 keys that can be programmed to the car..
