Resolved Question:

my widowed aunt who never had children told my mother, her sister that she was nt her next of kin anymore. my aunt has just died and her nephew by marriage is arranging the funeral and we dont know if theres a will. Could she have made him next of kin and how do we find out about a will?

Dear JA Customer


Your mother is likely to be the next of kin. However the right to arrange the funeral is with the executor, or the relative who just happens to be there. I would write to the nephew asking for a copy of the Will, failing which your mum can apply for grant of administration as the next of kin.
