I had over paid my solicitor, which they have confirmed back

Resolved Question:

I had over paid my solicitor, which they have confirmed back that the money is due to me, but are saying they will not pay unless i provide a copy of my passport and utility bill. Why do they need this? Is this a normal requirement?

Dear JA Customer

I am sorry, but nowadays firms insist on this for every client, especially if it involves money. Really the documentation should have been supplied at the outset of the matter and lawyers are required to have this on file as a measure to prevent money laundering; it is a Law Society requirement.
