how can a slap across the face be listed by the police as a 'beating'. when according to the dictionary a beating is 'continual hard hitting' when a slap is defined as a smack across the face with an open hand ?
Expert:  Jo C. replied 7 years ago.

Its a common assault.

Any physical contact would be by beating. It even covers spitting.

An open handed slap is a beating. The alternative is an assault by apprehension which literally covers shouting at a person in their face if they believe they are about to be assaulted.
